2017 Grand National

OLBG - 2017 Grand National

2017 Race Summary

One For Arthur became only the second Scottish trained winner of the Grand National after Rubstic in 1979, whilst trainer Lucinda Russell and jockey Derek Fox were recording their first victories in the 2017 renewal of the famous steeplechase.
One For Arthur jumped beautifully throughout, held up off the pace and given time to settle into his rhythm before starting to make a move after Bechers Brook on the second circuit. Favourite  Blaklion took it up five out and looked to be going well as they turned for home with two fences to jump but he quickly had company with Cause of Causes and Gas Line Boy who was squeezed for room two out. Jockey Derek Fox timed his run to perfection on  One For Arthur hitting the front jumping the last and won going away by four and a half lengths from Cause of Causes in second with previous Grand National runner up Saint Are staying on into third and favourite  Blaklion a further half a length back in fourth.
One For Arthur was only the second Grand National winner this century to have won wearing a tongue tie, the other being Silver Birch in 2007 of the 117 runners to have attempted the same feat since 2000.
